Pakistanis living in Europe will need to pay closer attention to new car safety rules, as the European Union (EU) is making several advanced features mandatory in all new passenger cars and vans sold from July 7, 2026.

The new rules will apply across EU member states and are aimed at making roads safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

For anyone planning to buy a new car in Europe, the changes mean newer vehicles will now be expected to come equipped with a wider set of built-in safety technologies.

Under the updated rules, all new cars and vans sold in the EU must include advanced emergency braking systems that can detect pedestrians and cyclists, along with driver distraction warning systems designed to alert motorists when they lose focus on the road.

The regulations also require better forward visibility for drivers, new testing standards for worn tires, and expanded safety glass areas intended to reduce the risk of serious injury to pedestrians during accidents.

The European Commission said the move is part of a wider push to improve vehicle safety standards and cut road deaths across the bloc.

While the changes do not mean existing cars will suddenly become illegal, all newly sold passenger cars and vans will have to meet the new safety requirements.
