Professor Rayaz Malik, a Pakistani-origin researcher at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar, has developed an AI-powered eye scan capable of detecting neurodegenerative diseases years before symptoms appear.
According to Al Jazeera English, the scan takes just two to three minutes and uses artificial intelligence to analyze nerve fibers in the eye.
The technology can reportedly identify dementia at least three years before visible symptoms emerge and detect diabetic neuropathy up to five years earlier, potentially allowing doctors to begin treatment and intervention much sooner.
Medical experts believe such early detection tools could significantly improve patient care and help slow the progression of neurological diseases through timely diagnosis and management.
The development has drawn praise on social media, with many calling it a major achievement for medical research and innovation.
