Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) plans to launch 20,000 online artificial intelligence (AI) training programs under the National AI Advancement Initiative (NAIAI) to prepare the country’s workforce for the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The six-to-12-month programmes will target fresh graduates, government officials, teachers, freelancers, and professionals from multiple industries through an advanced learning management system (LMS).
The initiative aims to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global AI market by improving workforce skills, promoting innovation, and encouraging AI adoption across sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, education, and industry.
Under the programme, participants will receive specialised certifications in high-demand fields such as machine learning, deep learning, and AI ethics.
AI literacy courses will also train civil servants and corporate leaders to support informed governance and strategic AI adoption.
MoITT has invited training and capacity-building companies to develop the LMS and design AI courses aligned with local and international market needs.
Software and AI expert Asim Tausif Khan said AI presents Pakistan with a major opportunity to increase its share in the global IT industry, which currently remains below one percent.
He stressed the need to rapidly upskill young people and professionals to meet growing demand in local and Gulf markets.
According to the National AI Policy 2025, Pakistan aims to train one million people in AI-related skills by 2030, including 10,000 AI trainers, 20,000 annual internships, and 3,000 advanced research scholarships each year.
IT exporter and AI coach Dr Noman Said said AI adoption has become essential for remaining competitive in the global workforce.
He urged educational institutions and the private sector to work together and introduce AI concepts at the secondary school level to build a future-ready workforce.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Amin, chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), warned that AI could replace many freelance jobs unless workers upgrade their skills.
However, he said AI also offers new opportunities for freelancers willing to learn modern technologies and invest in professional development.
