Pakistan will not take part in the upcoming South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship in India, with the women’s national team withdrawing from the regional tournament amid the ongoing political tensions between the two countries.
The development means this year’s competition will go ahead as a six-team event instead of featuring Pakistan.
SAFF has officially announced the groups for the upcoming tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in Goa from May 25 to June 7, with the official draw confirming two groups of three teams each. Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan have been placed in Group A, while India, Bangladesh and Maldives make up Group B.
Pakistan’s absence is a major setback for the side, which had been expected to compete in the regional event. It also trims the tournament lineup at a time when women’s football in South Asia continues to seek greater visibility and regular competition.
With Pakistan out, the spotlight will now shift to the remaining six teams set to battle for the title in Goa.
