Former Pakistan cricketer Mansoor Amjad has been appointed as the national men’s team fielding coach following the resignation of Australian coach Shane McDermott.
McDermott stepped down ahead of Pakistan’s Test series against the West Indies. According to reports, no reason for his departure has been made public.
The Australian joined Pakistan as the team’s all-format fielding coach in July last year on an undisclosed contract and had been expected to remain in the role through the Asian Games in September.
Before taking charge of Pakistan’s fielding department, McDermott held similar coaching roles with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, spending three years with each national team.
His first assignment with Pakistan came during the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh, where he replaced Mohammad Masroor as fielding coach.
Following McDermott’s departure, Mansoor Amjad has been confirmed as his replacement. The former Pakistan cricketer brings previous coaching experience with Pakistan U19 and Pakistan Shaheens.
Amjad was also part of Pakistan’s title-winning squad at the 2004 U19 World Cup.
The coaching change comes as Pakistan’s Test team begins its tour of the Caribbean. The squad departed for the West Indies on July 13 and will play a four-day warm-up match starting July 18 as part of its preparations.
Pakistan will then face the West Indies in a two-match Test series scheduled from July 25 to August 6.
