The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has issued an advisory warning Pakistani citizens travelling to Bahrain that carrying narcotics or even poppy seeds is a serious criminal offence under Bahraini law.

The bureau urged all foreign-bound passengers, especially those travelling for employment, to strictly follow Bahrain’s drug control regulations to avoid arrest, legal action, and loss of job opportunities.

According to the advisory, Bahrain enforces strict narcotics laws under Royal Decree No. 4 of 1973, which prohibits the cultivation, import, export, and possession of opium, its derivatives, and related substances.

Authorities advised travelers to thoroughly inspect their luggage before departure and ensure that no prohibited items are packed. The bureau stressed that even carrying poppy seeds is punishable under Bahraini law.

Officials warned that negligence or lack of awareness could lead to immediate detention, strict legal proceedings, and permanent restrictions on future employment prospects in Bahrain.

Travelers have also been advised to review local laws before departure and consult official Bahrain Customs guidelines regarding prohibited and restricted items.
