A Pakistan-backed panel has secured a clean sweep in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board elections, defeating the India-backed group to win all three available director positions.
The elections were held during the ACC Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, where the two panels competed for three seats on the ACC Board.
The winning panel, led by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, included representatives from Qatar, Singapore, and the Maldives, with all three candidates securing their respective seats.
The result marks the first time since the ACC’s establishment that a Pakistan-backed panel has won all three board positions. India was represented at the meeting by Rajeev Shukla.
The victory is being seen as a major achievement for Naqvi and an indication of Pakistan’s growing influence within the continental cricket body.
Apart from the elections, the meeting also reviewed preparations for next year’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Sylhet, Mirpur, and Chattogram have been proposed as venues for the tournament.
The ACC’s annual budget was also discussed, while preparations and arrangements for the Women’s Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Dubai, were reviewed.
