More than 200 volunteers participated in a special cleanup campaign at Rawal Dam, removing nearly two tons of solid waste from the surrounding area as part of efforts to promote environmental protection and public awareness about cleanliness.

The campaign was jointly organized by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) in collaboration with Jazz World on the directions of the CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner.

The cleanup drive was led by MCI Chief Officer Dr. Anum and brought together representatives of Jazz World, officials from the CDA and MCI, members of various non-governmental organizations, students, and civil society volunteers. During the campaign, participants collected 80 bags of garbage and cleared approximately two tons of waste from around Rawal Dam.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Anum said the initiative was organized in the public interest to help protect the environment and raise awareness about responsible waste disposal. She emphasized that public participation is essential to preserving natural resources and maintaining a clean environment.

She said the CDA and MCI are working in coordination with the Government of Punjab and other relevant agencies on long-term measures to protect Rawal Dam from pollution. These efforts include the installation of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to prevent contaminated wastewater from flowing into the reservoir.

Dr. Anum also urged citizens, particularly those living near the streams flowing from Bhara Kahu and Murree, to avoid dumping waste into waterways, saying these streams are among the major sources of pollution entering Rawal Dam. At the conclusion of the campaign, the CDA and MCI appreciated the contribution of Jazz World and all volunteers, reaffirming their commitment to continue similar public-private initiatives to make Islamabad cleaner, greener, and healthier.
