As Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited ( OGDC ) continues to strengthen its core mission of delivering reliable energy while advancing sustainability, inclusivity and community development.
Beyond exploration and production, the company is implementing a multifaceted strategy that balances production optimisation, indigenisation, social impact and environmental responsibility.
Production optimisation drive
OGDC has launched a comprehensive and focused production optimisation initiative aimed at reversing natural declines in mature fields and unlocking additional hydrocarbon output.
A dedicated cross-disciplinary working group reviews reservoir and production data to identify opportunities for performance enhancement, including artificial lift conversions, pressure maintenance systems and advanced stimulation techniques.
The initiative has already delivered measurable gains. In February 2026, OGDC enhanced output at the Kal-03 well by 1,400 per cent following targeted workover and rejuvenation efforts. These initiatives reflect OGDC’s commitment to operational excellence and sustained growth from existing assets.
Indigenisation and technological advancement
Aligned with national objectives and sectoral best practices, OGDC places strong emphasis on indigenisation by developing local technical expertise and integrating advanced technologies into field operations.
OGDC has accelerated its indigenisation drive to reduce import dependence, strengthen local industry and conserve foreign exchange. The company has engaged LUMS Energy to develop a comprehensive Indigenisation Roadmap, targeted for completion by June 2026.
Consultancy services for the Dhodak Refinery relocation and expansion are also underway. Several critical products are under development or refurbishment, including 6-inch seamless pipes, mud pump valves and liners, turbine air intake filters, man-portable seismic rigs, PCB cards of exciter regulators and refurbishment of Rig N-1, Rig K-750T, CAT Engine 3408 and 6-inch Class 600 ball valves.
OGDC has successfully developed chemicals such as demulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors and H₂S scavengers, along with mechanical components including 4-inch API 5L seamless pipes, corrosion coupons, Ajax compressor fuel valve kits, and electronic cards. These initiatives have generated total savings of over Rs328 million, including foreign exchange savings of approximately USD 2.05 million. The programme reflects OGDC’s structured approach to localisation, cost optimisation, and long-term operational sustainability.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
OGDC recognises that institutional diversity and inclusive practices are essential to organisational strength. In 2024, the company implemented its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Policy to foster a respectful, inclusive workplace, promoting equal opportunities for all employees regardless of gender, culture, race, or religion. The policy focuses on fair treatment, non-discrimination and initiatives for professional growth, including mentoring and specialised training.
The company fosters a professional environment that encourages equal opportunity and merit-based advancement. By integrating diverse perspectives across technical, operational and corporate functions, OGDC strengthens its talent base and nurtures a culture of collaboration and innovation reflective of its national footprint.
ESG commitment
OGDC has actively embraced ESG principles as part of its long-term corporate strategy. Through sustainability reporting and capacity building, the company is enhancing its internal governance and disclosure practices.
OGDC’s ESG Strategy 2025 outlines measures that include greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, flaring reduction programmes and responsible water and waste management to mitigate environmental impact and align with global sustainability benchmarks.
The company is committed to achieving robust ESG performance, ensuring lasting value for all stakeholders by integrating ESG principles throughout its business operations. As a responsible company, OGDC understand that its role surpasses business continuity to include safeguarding the environment and uplifting communities.
OGDC’s ESG approach extends beyond risk mitigation, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and pursuing ongoing improvement to contribute to Net Zero goals, sustainable progress and a more inclusive society
