A symposium was held at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha on Wednesday to mark the formal launch of cardiac electrophysiology services at the institute.
Chief Minister Punjab’s Adviser on Health, Major General (Retd) Azhar Mahmood Kayani, attended the symposium as the chief guest.
President Pakistan Heart Rhythm Society Professor Brigadier (Retd) Azmat Hayat, Dean Major General (Retd) Khurram Shehzad, cardiac electrophysiology experts, doctors and medical staff also participated.
Addressing the symposium, Azhar Mahmood Kayani said the Punjab government was taking comprehensive measures to provide modern and quality healthcare facilities to people.
He said the launch of cardiac electrophysiology services at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology, Sargodha, was an important medical facility for patients in the region.
With the availability of modern technology and specialist doctors, patients suffering from irregular heart rhythms and other complex cardiac conditions would have access to better treatment facilities, he added.
The adviser said introducing advanced medical specialties in public sector hospitals was among the government’s priorities so that patients would not have to travel to major cities for treatment.
Professor Brigadier (Retd) Azmat Hayat said cardiac electrophysiology was a modern medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms. He termed the launch of the facility in Sargodha a major development for patients and said it would further promote advanced cardiac care in the region.
He said the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology, Sargodha, was equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and was no less than any international hospital.
Experts at the symposium discussed cardiac electrophysiology, diagnosis of arrhythmias and modern treatment procedures in detail.
On the occasion, the institute also performed its first cardiac electrophysiology arrhythmia ablation procedure. The procedure was performed by Dr Muhammad Awais and Professor Brigadier (Retd) Azmat Hayat.
The symposium concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, followed by a group photograph of the participants.
