South Air, a new Pakistani private airline, is preparing to expand its fleet even before launching commercial operations.

According to reports, South Air plans to begin flight operations in June 2026, using ATR 72 aircraft as the backbone of its initial fleet. The airline aims to position itself as a regional carrier focused on affordable, short-haul connectivity across Pakistan.

On May 8, 2026, South Air’s first ATR 72-500 aircraft arrived in Karachi. The delivery flight and arrival ceremony highlighted the carrier’s readiness to enter service and underscored growing interest in Pakistan’s expanding private aviation sector.

Barely days after the first aircraft’s arrival, Pakistan Aviation News reported that a second aircraft is expected to join South Air’s fleet next week. This rapid induction indicates that the airline intends to begin operations with multiple aircraft, enhancing schedule reliability and route coverage from day one.

South Air plans to deploy its ATR 72s on routes connecting underserved and regional destinations such as Gwadar, Turbat, and Panjgur with major hubs like Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad. By using turboprops optimized for shorter runways and lower-demand routes, the airline seeks to improve access for communities that currently face limited flight options.

Beyond its initial network, the airline has outlined intentions to expand toward larger cities and key tourism destinations, including Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gilgit, Chitral, and Skardu. This phased growth strategy suggests that South Air views its early fleet expansion as the foundation for a broader national footprint in the coming years.

Industry observers note that South Air’s entry—and its quick move to add multiple aircraft—comes at a time when Pakistan’s aviation sector is seeking fresh investment, competition, and capacity on domestic routes. The airline’s expansion plans are expected to increase connectivity, support tourism in northern and coastal regions, and create new jobs across aviation and allied services.
