The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is accelerating work on multiple aviation projects aimed at modernizing infrastructure and improving connectivity across key regions.

The authority has launched feasibility and master planning work for a new greenfield airport in Faisalabad, marking the start of collaboration with international consultancy firm DAR Al-Handasah, in joint venture with local partner OCL-Asian.

The proposed airport is planned as a modern facility to support economic activity, trade, tourism, and job creation in Central Punjab. In Gilgit-Baltistan, a new master plan for Skardu International Airport is being developed to upgrade the facility and improve its capacity to handle growing passenger traffic.

An official from the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation said the project will introduce modern features to align the airport with international aviation standards.

In Lahore, construction of a new passenger terminal at Allama Iqbal International Airport is nearing completion, with the Rs. 26 billion project expected to be finalized within the year.

Project Director Tauqeer Iqbal said the new terminal will increase annual passenger capacity from five million to 10 million. He said the facility will include 144 arrival and departure counters, expanded commercial spaces, advanced boarding systems, and self-service machines to improve passenger handling and efficiency.
