A 37-year-old man died while swimming at the LDA Sports Complex in Lahore, raising serious questions over the facility’s safety measures and supervision.
According to reports, the incident occurred two days ago at the swimming pool of the EME Sports Complex, which is managed by the LDA Sports Complex Directorate.
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Aqdas, reportedly drowned while swimming. Reports allege that the on-duty lifeguard failed to rescue him in time, with negligence being cited as a key factor behind the tragedy.
The incident has also put the spotlight on the Sports Complex Directorate, with reports claiming inadequate monitoring and management contributed to the fatal accident.
It has further been alleged that the Directorate kept the details of the incident from the public for two days.
Meanwhile, the Sports Complex Directorate maintained that Muhammad Aqdas died after suffering a heart attack while swimming, rather than due to drowning.
Following the incident, Director Sports Complex Khurram Yaqoob reportedly applied for leave.
According to reports, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is now considering removing the director from his position over concerns regarding his performance and handling of the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the death are expected to come under further scrutiny as authorities review the incident and the safety protocols in place at the sports facility.
