The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has finalized a comprehensive traffic management plan for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), which will be observed on Tuesday, August 4.
The traffic police said 11 Chehlum processions will pass through different parts of Rawalpindi district. The department has deployed more than 310 traffic officers and personnel to regulate traffic and facilitate commuters during the religious event. The CTP will establish 12 traffic diversion points across the city to maintain security and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The police will close several major roads during the processions, including Liaquat Road (from DAV College Chowk to Fawara Chowk), City Saddar Road (from Mashriq Hotel to Fawara Chowk), Kashmiri Bazaar Road (from Novelty Cinema to Fawara Chowk), Ganjmandi Road (from Ganjmandi Police Station Turn to Fawara Chowk), Bagh Sardaran Road (from Chungi No. 4 to Bansawala Chowk), Banni Chowk, Iqbal Road (from Committee Chowk to Fawara Chowk), Gordon College Road, Fifth Road, Fourth Road, and Asghar Mall Road.
The traffic police will divert vehicles to alternate routes and deploy additional personnel to assist motorists and reduce congestion.
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam directed all circle DSPs and traffic in charges to remain on high alert, coordinate closely with the district police, and implement the traffic plan effectively.
He also instructed traffic officers to provide maximum assistance to the public throughout the Chehlum observances. The CTO urged citizens to follow the traffic plan, use alternate routes, and avoid unnecessary travel on Murree Road and adjoining areas during procession timings to minimize inconvenience.
