Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Talal Chaudhry told the Senate on Wednesday that the Rs. 10 billion Park Road infrastructure project in Islamabad is progressing on schedule, with the first phase expected to be completed in July.

Responding to a calling attention notice regarding the Park Road underpass project, he said construction began in March and had not faced any delays. The project includes an underpass, overhead infrastructure, service roads and other road improvements aimed at easing traffic flow and improving connectivity.

Talal Chaudhry said the underpass, which forms the first phase of the project, is expected to be completed in July, while the remaining work is scheduled for completion in August.

He said the project is being carried out in collaboration with the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), which are also overseeing its financing.

According to the minister, the project will improve connectivity between Park Road, Margalla Avenue and surrounding areas, benefiting residents of both older and newly developed sectors of the capital.

He acknowledged temporary inconvenience for commuters during construction but said the project would help reduce traffic congestion, travel time and fuel consumption once completed.

Talal Chaudhry added that environmental impact assessments were conducted before work began and measures are being taken to minimize any impact on green areas. He said the project is among the major ongoing infrastructure developments in Islamabad.
