The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to abolish the sale and purchase of property files in private housing schemes and introduce a digital verification system to enhance transparency and protect investors.

The decision was taken during a meeting of representatives of private housing schemes chaired by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq.

Under the new policy, property file trading within LDA’s jurisdiction will be completely banned from July 1. Private housing schemes have been directed to transfer their records to the Punjab Land Records Authority’s digital software system by June 30.

Officials said that after the deadline, all plot transactions will be conducted through officially issued property certificates instead of traditional property files, a practice widely used in Pakistan’s real estate sector.

Speaking at the meeting, DG Tahir Farooq said the reforms would improve transparency, reduce fraud, and strengthen investor confidence. He added that the LDA would launch a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the new system.

Under the revised framework, housing schemes will issue green certificates and registration documents through a digital portal.

Each property certificate will carry a QR code, enabling buyers and authorities to instantly verify ownership details and other relevant information.

The initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to digitize land records, modernize the real estate sector, and ensure secure and transparent property transactions across the province.
