The Punjab government has posted Grade-19 police officer Abdul Raheem Sherazi as Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, assigning him charge of the city’s traffic management.

An official notification has been issued, authorizing him to take over the position. Sherazi previously served as District Police Officer (DPO) in Mandi Bahauddin.

The appointment comes at a time when the provincial assembly has approved changes to traffic penalties. In its sitting on Wednesday, the Punjab Assembly cleared seven bills through a majority vote.

The session, presided over by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, began after a delay of more than two hours. Among the legislation passed was the Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Bill 2026, which revises fines for multiple traffic violations.

Under the updated framework, penalties for certain motorcycle violations have been reduced to Rs. 1,000 from Rs. 2,000, with an upper limit of Rs. 2,000. For rickshaws, fines for minor offences have been lowered to Rs. 1,000 from Rs. 3,000, while major violations will now attract a Rs. 2,000 fine.

Fines for cars and jeeps have also been reduced to Rs. 2,000 from Rs. 5,000 for specific offences, while penalties related to over-speeding remain unchanged.
