The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to outsource government schools across the province, following a similar approach previously adopted for public hospitals.

According to the provincial education department, around 2,000 government primary schools will be handed over to the private sector under the approved outsourcing plan.

Officials said nearly 500 public schools have already been outsourced so far. The provincial government will provide around Rs. 300,000 per month to each school to cover staff salaries and other operational costs.

The education department further stated that 233 schools located in winter zone areas have already been outsourced.

According to officials, student enrollment in these schools has shown significant improvement after outsourcing. Enrollment has increased by 89%, rising to 7,718 students compared with 4,086 before the outsourcing process.

Authorities said the government aims to increase enrollment from an average of 40 students per school to 180 within one year.

Officials also said contracts may be canceled if institutions fail to meet the required performance targets.
