Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister on finance Muzzammil Aslam has directed all seven Water and Sanitation Services Companies operating across the province to pay employees the announced minimum wage.

He issued the directive while chairing a meeting at the Finance Department’s committee room on Friday.

The meeting reviewed the administrative and financial affairs of the companies, expenditure reduction, employees’ wages, audit reports, billing systems and issues affecting drainage and sewerage systems.

Muzzammil said contingent employees working in the Water and Sanitation Services Companies must be paid the minimum wage announced by the provincial government under all circumstances.

He said the additional funds needed after the wage increase would be provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department. However, he stressed that the companies must control expenses and maintain financial discipline.

The advisor directed the Water and Sanitation Services Companies in Kohat and Swat to take immediate steps to reduce unnecessary spending, while he appreciated the efforts of the Peshawar company to control its expenditures.

The meeting also decided that the companies would introduce separate billing services for commercial activities, while the billing systems of all companies would be shifted online immediately.

Muzzammil said online billing would improve transparency and efficiency while also reducing spending on manpower and stationery.

He further directed action against encroachments affecting drainage systems. He said coordinated measures should be taken with district administrations and tehsil municipal officers so drainage systems in urban areas can remain operational and work more effectively.
