The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority has approved a pre-feasibility study for a proposed circular rail project aimed at improving urban transport in Peshawar and surrounding areas.
The decision was taken during the authority’s 20th board meeting, chaired by the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The proposed rail network will connect Peshawar with Nowshera and Jehangira, with the aim of easing traffic congestion and improving mobility.
An amount of Rs 13.162 million has been allocated for the pre-feasibility study. The board also approved the project’s terms of reference, budget, and related expenditures.
The authority has been permitted to enter into a consultancy agreement with the Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology to support planning and technical aspects of the project.
During the meeting, officials were also directed to fast-track the pre-feasibility study for the proposed Peshawar–Torkham railway project, indicating broader efforts to expand rail connectivity in the region.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address increasing urban transport challenges and improve infrastructure in the province.
