Karachi Traffic Police have launched a new enforcement measure against wrong-way driving, providing officers with gadgets to issue fines to violators.
Traffic DIG Pir Muhammad Shah said motorists in the city have increasingly been violating one-way rules, adding that officers have been equipped with gadgets to improve enforcement.
He said a special Traffic Flow Unit will soon be deployed on roads, while enforcement tools are being provided to officers to strengthen action.
According to the DIG, 36 locations in the city have been identified where wrong-way violations are most frequent, and the new unit is expected to help reduce the issue.
He added that the e-challan system is not available across the entire city, noting that the faceless tracking system has not been implemented on University Road.
The DIG said manual challans have been discontinued after the introduction of the system, which has had both benefits and drawbacks. He further said that fines for lane violations on Shahrah-e-Faisal will be enforced from June.
