The Karachi administration has decided to launch a dedicated mobile application to centralize fire safety data for commercial buildings, shopping centers, and major public venues across the city to improve emergency response efforts.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, which reviewed progress on the ongoing fire safety audit of commercial buildings in Karachi.

Officials said the new platform would integrate all departments involved in disaster management and fire safety.

In case of an emergency, rescue agencies would be able to access real-time information about a building’s fire safety arrangements and emergency facilities through the app’s dashboard, enabling faster and better coordinated responses.

Authorities said Sub-Divisional Fire Safety Audit Committees, working under assistant commissioners and formed on the directives of Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah, are continuing inspections of commercial buildings, shopping centers, and large public facilities across Karachi.

During the meeting, officials revealed that more than 800 buildings have already been surveyed. Authorities issued notices to buildings failing to meet fire safety standards and directed owners to immediately address deficiencies.

PDMA system analyst Diyal Das Rathore informed the meeting that survey data of over 800 buildings had been uploaded to the Fire Safety Audit Portal, including details of fire prevention measures and disaster response systems.

Officials also discussed adding more data to the portal to strengthen emergency preparedness during fires and natural disasters. Commissioner Naqvi directed authorities to speed up the audit process and prioritize high-risk buildings.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Chief Fire Officer, Rescue-1122, Civil Defense, and the Sindh Building Control Authority will assist in the campaign, while Civil Defense has been tasked with identifying buildings lacking adequate safety arrangements.

The commissioner emphasized that all relevant departments must actively cooperate to complete the fire safety audit at the earliest.
