The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has finalized a special emergency plan to ensure uninterrupted water supply and efficient drainage services during Muharram-ul-Haram and Ashura.
The measures have been introduced on the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and KWSC CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, with officials ordered to remain on high alert throughout Muharram.
According to a circular issued by Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan, all water and sewerage-related work around mosques, imambargahs, majalis venues, sabeels and procession routes must be completed before Ashura.
KWSC has directed its officers to coordinate closely with the district administration, police, elected representatives and religious organizations to ensure smooth arrangements during Muharram gatherings and processions.
The corporation has also ordered uninterrupted water supply, cleaning of sewerage lines, repair and covering of manholes, and the deployment of jetting and suction machines to handle emergencies.
Special duty rosters will remain in place during the Muharram holidays, while the Hydrants Cell has been tasked with ensuring adequate water supply at mosques, imambargahs, sabeels and procession routes.
