A Karachi court has ordered Civil Hospital Karachi to pay Rs. 6.5 million in compensation to a woman who allegedly developed multiple health complications after undergoing an incorrect surgery at the hospital.
The case was filed by Najma Rizwan against Civil Hospital Karachi in the court of the Senior Civil Judge South. After completing the proceedings, the court ruled in favor of Rizwan and ordered the hospital to pay Rs. 6.5 million in damages within 60 days.
According to the woman’s lawyer, Rizwan was admitted to Civil Hospital on November 3, 2015, where she underwent surgery for childbirth. She was discharged from the hospital on November 6.
However, her health reportedly deteriorated after her discharge. She developed abdominal pain, swelling and other medical complications, prompting her family to seek treatment at another hospital.
The lawyer told the court that subsequent treatment revealed that an incorrect surgery had allegedly been performed at Civil Hospital. He argued that negligence during the procedure caused the woman to develop several additional health problems.
After hearing the case and reviewing the arguments, the court issued its decision in Rizwan’s favor and directed Civil Hospital Karachi to pay the compensation within the specified period.
