The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved the abolition of 1,062 vacant and redundant positions as part of a broader right-sizing and austerity drive aimed at streamlining administrative operations and reducing financial pressure on the public sector.

The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Human Resource Development Directorate on May 6, 2026, following approval during the CDA Board’s fifth meeting held in late April.

According to the notification, the restructuring targets two categories of positions considered dormant or no longer necessary under current operational requirements. The authority abolished 100 vacant posts of Stenotypists in BPS-14 and 962 vacant posts of Beldars in BPS-01 with immediate effect.

Officials said the eliminated positions were either lying vacant for extended periods or no longer aligned with the technological and operational needs of the federal capital’s main civic and development authority.

The move forms part of the federal government’s broader right sizing policy focused on reducing unnecessary expenditure, improving efficiency, and lowering the burden on the national exchequer.

By removing dormant positions from the approved workforce structure, the CDA aims to optimize resource allocation and redirect funds toward priority urban development and infrastructure projects in Islamabad.

The notification specifically cited austerity measures as the key reason behind the reduction in the authority’s sanctioned workforce strength.

To formally implement the restructuring, the CDA Board also directed amendments to the relevant provisions of the CDA Employees Service Regulation 1992. Officials said the changes would permanently update the organizational structure and prevent future recruitment against the abolished posts without fresh approval from the board
