Pakistan has announced a provisional squad for the triathlon event at the upcoming Asian Games, as the country begins preparations for the continental competition.
The initial squad, selected after early trials, includes Shahrez Khan, Hamza Asif, Sana Arif and Ayesha Waqas. Officials confirmed that this is only a preliminary list, with further trials expected to expand the pool before the final team is announced.
Among the selected athletes, Shahrez Khan has emerged as a standout performer, qualifying as the top athlete for Pakistan’s triathlon team heading into the Asian Games. He brings significant international experience, particularly in endurance racing, having competed in multiple Ironman 70.3 events across different countries.
His performances have placed him among the top tier of global amateur triathletes, including a seventh-place finish in his age group at a major international event in the Philippines.
Shahrez Khan is also known for his family background, being the nephew of former Pakistan cricket captain and former prime minister Imran Khan. However, his selection is based on his athletic performance and results in recent trials.
Sana Arif also adds valuable experience to the squad, having competed in Ironman events, which are widely regarded as among the most demanding endurance competitions in the sport.
According to sources within the Pakistan Olympic Association, additional trials will be conducted to identify more triathlon athletes before the final squad is finalized. The process is aimed at ensuring that the strongest possible team represents Pakistan at the Asian Games.
Pakistan has been gradually expanding its presence in multi-sport events, with triathlon gaining more attention in recent years under the oversight of the national governing bodies.
The final squad announcement is expected after the completion of upcoming trials.
