Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan (HCAR) will continue prioritizing hybrid vehicles and has no immediate plans to launch battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Pakistan, even though the company already has the technology and localization capabilities to manufacture EVs.
Honda executives shared the company’s strategy during a corporate briefing on Tuesday attended by Arif Habib Limited (AHL).
According to AHL, Honda believes hybrid vehicles offer the most practical solution for Pakistan at this stage because the country’s infrastructure and consumers are not yet ready for widespread BEV adoption.
AHL analyst Menka Kirpalani said Honda expects Pakistan’s auto market to adopt hybrid vehicles before shifting to fully electric models. She added that Honda already possesses the technology and localization capabilities to manufacture EVs and can begin production when market demand supports the move.
Honda’s current strategy differs from the federal government’s policy, which encourages automakers to manufacture electric vehicles locally and expand EV adoption to reduce fuel imports and cut carbon emissions.
