Pakistan’s Ministry of Power Division has introduced new amendments to solar system regulations, making it mandatory for all consumers to obtain a license from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to generate electricity.
Under the revised policy, consumers will be required to pay a licensing fee based on the capacity of their solar system. As part of the process, applicants must also submit a pay order in the name of NEPRA.
Previously, consumers installing solar systems of up to 25 kilowatts were granted licenses free of charge. This provision has now been withdrawn under the new amendments.
According to sources, consumers will now have to pay an additional fee of rs. 1,000 per kilowatt.
The amendments further state that consumers will be provided connections under a net billing project framework.
These changes represent a significant shift in the government’s regulatory approach toward solar energy systems in the country.
