The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi following a request from the Punjab government to strengthen security arrangements in the city.

The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued a notification authorizing the deployment under Article 245 of the Constitution.

According to the notification, the deployment was approved after the Punjab Home Department formally requested military assistance through a letter dated July 22, 2026.

The federal government has authorized three companies of the Pakistan Army to perform sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi. The troops will assist the district administration in preventing any undesirable situation and responding to unforeseen circumstances.

The deployment will take effect immediately and remain in place for six months.

Army personnel will support the Rawalpindi district administration in maintaining law and order and strengthening security at sensitive locations and key routes across the city.

The notification said the deployment is aimed at enabling authorities to respond quickly to any untoward situation and provide assistance to the district administration whenever required.

The move comes as authorities in Rawalpindi enhance security arrangements at sensitive locations and prepare for potential law and order challenges.
