Google has started rolling out Gemini Go, a lighter version of its AI assistant built for Android Go devices with 2GB of RAM or more. The new assistant is designed to replace Google Assistant Go on entry-level Android phones.
Gemini Go runs inside the Google Search app on eligible Android Go devices, helping users access Google’s AI assistant without needing higher-end hardware.
Users can launch Gemini Go by long-pressing the Home button or the Power key, similar to how Gemini works on more capable Android phones.
Gemini Go can help users make phone calls, send text messages, set alarms, create calendar events, and play music through voice or text prompts.
The assistant can also answer local queries, such as checking travel time or finding nearby restaurants with specific requirements.
Users can upload documents, photos, and other files into chats to give Gemini more context for questions.
Gemini Go is optimized for phones with modest processors, limited memory, and smaller storage capacity. The goal is to make Google’s conversational AI available on affordable devices rather than limiting it to premium Android phones.
The rollout also continues Google’s wider shift from Google Assistant to Gemini across Android and other platforms. Google previously said the mobile Assistant experience would move to Gemini, with the broader transition continuing into 2026.
Gemini Go is rolling out gradually, so availability may vary by device and region. Eligible Android Go users should receive it through the Google Search app update.
The launch gives budget Android users access to AI features that were previously more closely tied to phones with stronger hardware.
