The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a five per cent increase in transport fares in response to the recent hike in petroleum product prices. Alliance representative Malik Shehzad Awan stated that diesel prices rose by Rs5.70 per litre on one day and a further Rs7.15 per litre the next. He warned that if the government fails to provide relief, transport operations across Pakistan will come to a halt.

Alliance representative Malik Shehzad Awan stated that diesel prices rose by Rs5.70 per litre on one day and a further Rs7.15 per litre the next. He warned that if the government fails to provide relief, transport operations across Pakistan will come to a halt.

“We condemn the daily increase in petroleum product prices,” Awan said, also declaring the alliance’s support for the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association’s impending strike.

The fare revision follows the collapse of negotiations between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association over the issue of daily fuel price adjustments.

After the talks failed, the association announced that petrol pumps nationwide would shut down from midnight tonight.
