The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has rejected the perception of a 45 per cent drop in CSS candidates, stating that the impression of waning youth interest in the competitive examination is incorrect and stems from a flawed comparison of statistics.
According to the FPSC, comparing applicant figures from 2022 and 2025 lacks proper context. The commission noted that 64,081 candidates registered for the MPT screening test in 2025, which it described as clear evidence of sustained interest among young aspirants.
For the 2025 written examination, 18,139 candidates submitted applications, 12,792 appeared for the test, and 354 qualified. Following interviews, 342 candidates were declared eligible, and 170 were ultimately appointed to various services.
The FPSC emphasized that thousands of candidates participate in the MPT screening test every year, yet media reports overlooked these figures when drawing comparisons.
The commission maintained that the MPT registration numbers alone demonstrate that interest in the CSS examination remains robust.
