Former Pakistan national badminton champion Pulwasha Bashir has won the Women’s 35+ Singles title at the Canadian Masters tournament after defeating Canada’s top-seeded player, Anna Rice, in the final.

Pulwasha said the event featured more than 300 players from around the world, including competitors from Indonesia, India, Canada, and other countries. She described the tournament as “an incredible experience.”

In a social media post after her victory, Pulwasha said competing in her first Masters tournament marked “a new chapter” in her career. She added that winning against such strong competition made the achievement “even more special.”

Despite entering Masters competition, Pulwasha stressed that the move “does not mean that her open category career is over,” adding that her “passion, hunger, and competitive spirit remain.”

She also said she was proud to have won the Canadian Masters Championship title.

Pulwasha thanked those who supported her during the tournament, including Muqeet Rana for his encouragement and attention to detail, coaches and mentors Tariq Wadood and Rizwan Azam. her teammate Irene, and her husband and family, dedicating the victory to them.

She also noted that she remains active in coaching while continuing to pursue her own competitive goals.

Hailing from Karachi, Pulwasha won her first national women’s singles and doubles titles in 2009. She also claimed a bronze medal at the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka and represented Pakistan at the 2014 Asian Games, as well as the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
