NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel dominate the graphics card market, but a new challenger from China may be able to compete for the first time ever.
Chinese GPU maker, Lisuan Tech, has officially received Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification for its 6nm graphics cards, according to reports.
The company is only the fourth chipmaker to secure the certification and the first Chinese graphics card manufacturer to do so.
WHQL certification is considered an important step for hardware companies targeting the Windows ecosystem. Microsoft uses the program to test hardware and drivers for compatibility, stability, and security before approving.
Certified drivers are digitally signed by Microsoft, helping confirm authenticity and reducing security warnings during installation.
WHQL-certified drivers can also be distributed through Windows Update, allowing supported devices to automatically install the correct software.
The certification may help Lisuan Tech expand outside China by making setup and driver support easier for international users.
The company has not confirmed any broader global launch plans, but WHQL approval removes a major barrier to entering overseas markets.
Several Chinese GPU developers, including Biren Technology and Moore Threads, have shown they can design working graphics cards.
However, software support has often remained a weak point, with immature drivers and compatibility issues limiting real-world performance.
Lisuan Tech’s certification suggests progress in driver quality and software readiness.
Lisuan Tech’s eXtreme LX series currently includes four models built on a 6nm process:
The LX 7G100 is the company’s only gaming graphics card so far, while the other models are aimed at workstation and server users.
Reports said Lisuan Tech received WHQL certification specifically for the LX 7G100.
That could help the company target gaming users beyond its domestic market.
The LX 7G100 has reportedly shown performance close to that of the GeForce RTX 4060, Nvidia’s previous-generation midrange GPU.
Hopefully, Lisuan Tech now has more incentive to produce additional gaming and other GPUs for the global market that rival or even beat established GPUs from industry giants.
