After five seasons of adventures across Europe and a sixth on the way, Emily Cooper is finally ready to bid fans adieu. Netflix announced its hit fashion romcom will not be continuing past its next season.
The show’s lead, Lily Collins, recorded a video announcement to break the news to fans. “After six unforgettable years playing Emily Cooper, I am here to share that this upcoming sixth season will be our final.
“I can’t wait for all the magic ahead and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet,” she said.
The last season will start off in Greece, after which the show will take audiences to lavish Monaco before finally returning to the city that started it all, Paris.
Director Darren Star — who was given a state honour by France for his work on the show — thanked his team and fans for making the show a success. “Making Emily in Paris with this extraordinary cast and crew has been the trip of a lifetime. As we embark on the final season, I am so grateful to Netflix, Paramount, and, most importantly, the fans who have taken this incredible journey with us.”
Star said, “We can’t wait to share this last chapter with you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris. We will always have Emily in Paris !”
For those in need of a recap, the fifth season saw the protagonist try to set up an office for her employer in Rome, romancing an Italian fashion heir along the way.
With the office now closed, the Italian love interest dumped, her heart still in Paris and a letter from her first French crush calling her to a yacht on the Aegean Sea, the stage is set for a dramatic finale to tie all the loose ends together.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the show’s finale; all we know is that it is expected to release sometime this year.
