The Sindh government and the National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives have set June 2027 as the completion deadline for five major federal highway projects in Sindh worth Rs. 140.91 billion.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to review progress on the Sindh Coastal Highway, Mehran Highway, Rohri Guddu Road, Tando Allahyar Tando Adam Dual Carriageway, and Sanghar Rohri Road.
The projects are being carried out under the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in collaboration with the Sindh government. Officials were informed that the combined cost of the five projects stands at Rs. 140.91 billion, with the federal government contributing Rs. 96.75 billion and the Sindh government Rs. 44.15 billion.
Participants stressed the need for the timely release of federal funds to keep construction on schedule. The meeting reviewed progress on the 36 kilometer Sindh Coastal Highway extension, estimated at Rs. 37.7 billion, where construction began after the work order was issued in June 2026.
Work is also underway on the 150 kilometer Mehran Highway, costing Rs. 17.79 billion, with asphalt base work completed on 44 kilometers. The committee was briefed on the 31.4 kilometer Tando Allahyar Tando Adam Dual Carriageway project, worth Rs. 9.28 billion.
Officials said utility relocation, transmission line shifting, and pending approvals from Pakistan Railways remain the main challenges.
Construction is continuing on the 135 kilometer Nawabshah Ranipur dualization project, valued at Rs. 41.03 billion, while progress was also reviewed on the 221 kilometer Sanghar Rohri Road project, costing Rs. 35.08 billion, where road widening and base work have been completed on key sections and asphalt laying is expected to begin soon.
