The government has set December 2026 as the target for completing all four packages of the 153-kilometre Chitral-Booni-Mastuj-Shandur Road.
According to official documents, the project needs Rs4.20 billion in the 2026-27 fiscal year to meet the deadline. So far, authorities have spent Rs6.59 billion on the road project.
The road, which links Chitral with Shandur through Pret, Booni, Mastuj and Shaidas, was declared National Highway N-140 after federalisation in May 2020.
Officials divided the project into four construction packages. Work is underway on all sections, but progress remains uneven.
The first package from Chitral to Pret has recorded the highest progress at 47.54 percent. The second package, from Pret to Booni, has reached 34.77 percent completion.
The third package from Booni to Shaidas stands at 38.16 percent, while the fourth and final package from Shaidas to Shandur has achieved 29.78 percent progress.
The project originally had completion deadlines between 2023 and 2024, but authorities have now revised the target to December 2026.
