The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed internet service providers (ISPs) to improve their services after detecting slow internet across 31 major cities, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

PTA made these remarks in its Quality of Service (QoS) assessment of fixed-line broadband networks for Q1 2026.

The survey evaluated Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) against key performance indicators (KPIs) to determine service reliability and network quality for consumers.

Most operators are meeting core benchmarks such as network availability, jitter performance, and latency levels. However, the report also identified performance gaps in parts of the network.

PTA noted that heavy bandwidth usage during peak hours has caused congestion, leading to slower internet speeds and reduced user experience. Higher latency levels were also observed in both domestic and international connectivity, pointing to inefficiencies in routing and backbone infrastructure.

In response, PTA has instructed relevant service providers to take immediate corrective steps to improve network performance and ensure compliance with QoS standards.

The regulator reiterated its focus on improving broadband quality across the country and enhancing user experience. The detailed QoS report for Q1 2026 has been published on PTA’s official website for public access.
