A two-coach freight train has successfully completed a test run on a historic British-era railway track, traveling from the station to the 502 Workshop through the Kacheri Chowk underpass after a prolonged gap.
The trial was conducted to assess the safe movement of the train and its ability to transport equipment to the workshop. The journey was completed successfully.
Laid in 1892, the railway track runs from the station to the historic 502 Workshop and was originally constructed during British rule to meet military requirements.
Despite being more than a century old, the track is reported to remain in remarkably good condition. Its components, bolts, and fittings have reportedly shown no significant weakening or rusting, while its overall structural strength has largely remained intact.
The track continues to serve the same military requirements for which it was originally built.
Over the years, its route near Kacheri Chowk has been narrowed and now passes between the underpass, an overhead bridge, and the main road, creating an unusual sight for commuters and visitors.
The sound of the freight train passing through the area quickly caught the attention of motorists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians traveling on the overhead bridge, through the underpass, and along the main road.
The rare sight also surprised many people in the area, including lawyers and litigants, who learned for the first time that a railway track passes through Kacheri Chowk and is still used by trains.
Several residents stopped to watch the train as it passed through the area after a long interval, turning the test run into an unusual attraction for onlookers.
The historic railway track remains highly important from a military perspective.
