A protocol vehicle in Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s convoy caught fire on Lahore Ring Road, triggering an emergency response but causing no injuries.
Rescue officials said the BMW was completely destroyed in the blaze. Firefighters reached the spot soon after receiving the alert and managed to bring the fire under control after a rescue operation.
According to officials, only the driver was inside the vehicle when the fire broke out. He remained unharmed, and no casualties were reported.
Police sources said Maryam Nawaz was returning to Jati Umra at the time of the incident. Nawaz Sharif was also accompanying her, and both were said to be on their way back from Fazaia Housing Society when the vehicle caught fire.
Initial findings suggest the BMW had previously been taken to a workshop twice over a technical fault, raising questions about whether a mechanical issue may have caused the fire.
However, authorities said the exact cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.
Police and other officials have launched an investigation and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the vehicle’s reported technical history, to determine what led to the fire.
