The Balochistan government announced that Haji Amanullah Masjid Road in Duki district has been renamed Dr. Mahnoor Nasar Road in honor of a 29-year-old doctor who survived a brutal acid attack earlier this year.
Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti had announced that a prominent road in Duki district would be named after Dr. Mahnoor Nasar to recognize her bravery, resilience and service as a medical professional.
A notification issued by the chief minister officially announced the immediate renaming of Haji Amanullah Masjid Road, located near Damani Chowk, as Dr Mahnoor Nasar Road.
Dr. Nasar was working at Quetta’s Civil Hospital in June when a hospital employee threw acid on her, leaving her with severe burns to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body.
The attack sparked widespread condemnation and led doctors in Quetta to go on strike to demand a thorough investigation.
The attacker, identified by police as Humayun Shah, was killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers who tracked him down while he was attempting to flee on a bus.
CM Bugti praised Dr. Nasar’s courage in a post on the social media platform X, calling her determination an “example for the daughters of Balochistan.”
