ASUS and Xreal have finally launched the ROG Xreal R1, a pair of AR gaming glasses built for handheld, PC, and console gaming. The glasses were first shown at CES 2026 and are now available for pre-order.
The Asus ROG Xreal R1 uses a Sony 0.55-inch micro OLED display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
ASUS says the glasses can project a 171-inch virtual screen with a 57-degree field of view. The display supports up to a 240Hz refresh rate with boosted frame rate enabled, along with 3ms motion to photon latency and up to 700 nits of peak brightness with increased brightness enabled.
The display covers up to 95% of the user’s focused vision, according to ASUS.
ASUS says the R1 works across handheld devices, PCs, and consoles, but it is designed to work most closely with the ROG Ally.
When connected to the ROG Ally, users can adjust brightness, screen size, aspect ratio, visual effects, tint level, frame rate boost, spatial lock, and 3D mode through Armoury Crate SE without leaving gameplay.
The glasses also support native 3DoF tracking. Users can either pin the display in a fixed position with Anchor mode or let it follow their head movement.
The ROG Xreal R1 comes with the ROG Control Dock, which works with the ASUS DisplayWidget Center for keyboard and mouse control.
The dock lets users manage virtual screen settings and use GamePlus tools, including AI-enhanced dynamic crosshairs, timers, and other in-game features.
The glasses also support real-time 2D to 3D conversion, which adds depth and scale to standard games.
The ROG Xreal R1 includes electrochromic lens technology that can adjust transparency in real time.
ASUS says the lenses can become transparent when users look away from an anchored screen and tint again when they look back. The glasses also offer three manual tint levels and a one-click transparency mode.
For audio, the glasses use Sound by Bose. ASUS says the system is designed to improve spatial detail, including footsteps and explosions in games. The full device weighs 91 grams.
ASUS said pre-orders opened on May 15, with worldwide shipping set to begin on June 1. The glasses are priced at $849.99.
