The report claims the foldable, widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, will appear alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, Apple may only showcase the device rather than immediately put it on sale. Apple itself has not yet officially announced its September 2026 iPhone event or confirmed the iPhone Ultra.

The report also claims Apple may take the unusual step of unveiling the phone without announcing its final price.

In Australia, the foldable could eventually cost as much as $2,613.

Production difficulties are said to be behind the unusual rollout. Apple’s suppliers have reportedly encountered more problems than expected during production verification testing, particularly with the foldable display and hinge.

Mass production was reportedly planned for June before moving to August and then being pushed back again. The report claims Foxconn was still adjusting its mass-production plans in late July, while engineering validation issues could potentially add another two months to the schedule.

However, the situation remains uncertain. Other recent supply-chain reports have claimed that Apple resolved earlier production problems and moved the foldable into mass production, with one report even suggesting Apple increased its planned orders.

The latest Australian report should therefore be treated cautiously. It also refers to the device as the “iPhone Fold” in places, although recent reports increasingly point to iPhone Ultra as the name of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
