Apple has internally prototyped, tested, and considered launching a modified Apple Pencil designed for its upcoming foldable iPhone, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman .

However, Gurman said it is unlikely that Apple will launch the accessory alongside its first foldable iPhone.

The prototype was reportedly shorter and stubbier than the Apple Pencil models currently designed for iPads.

Like existing Apple Pencil models, the stylus would magnetically attach to the side of the foldable iPhone for storage and charging.

That design creates a problem on a foldable device. The attachment point could get in the way when users open the phone but do not want to use the stylus.

Apple also reportedly has concerns about the stylus leaving marks on the display because foldable screens are generally more delicate than conventional smartphone displays.

Samsung faces a similar issue and offers specific S Pen models designed only for its foldable smartphones.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to debut on September 9, when it should become clear whether the stylus has progressed beyond the prototype stage.

While the foldable iPhone stylus appears unlikely to launch, Gurman also reported that Apple is testing white and dark gray ceramic case options for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12.

Apple is also testing a software feature that would keep the watch’s heart-rate sensor collecting data throughout the day, rather than mainly during physical activity or at random intervals.

The company is reportedly redesigning its fitness and health apps to make them more similar to services offered by Whoop and Oura.

A larger Apple Watch redesign is more likely to arrive next year, although Gurman said it could be delayed until 2028.
