Parachinar Airport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to reopen after remaining non-operational for years, following completion of upgrade work and successful trial operations.
The restoration has been carried out through joint efforts of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), marking progress toward the revival of air connectivity in the region.
Officials said FWO completed the upgrade work, bringing the airport to an advanced stage of operational readiness. On April 26, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted landing and takeoff trials to assess construction quality, runway performance, and overall operational preparedness.
Authorities confirmed that six successful landing and takeoff trials were completed during the exercise. Officials said the runway meets required professional standards and safety benchmarks, while performance was also evaluated under different operational scenarios.
Following the successful trials, authorities said the airport is moving toward reopening, which is expected to improve regional connectivity, enhance emergency response capabilities, and support economic activity in Parachinar and surrounding areas.
