The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports is set to introduce an AI-based chatbot to help applicants with passport-related information and services.

Director General Muhammad Ali Randhawa said the chatbot will provide guidance on passport procedures, required documents, and application steps. Applicants will also be able to use it to check the status of their passports after submission.

The digital assistant is being introduced as part of broader reforms aimed at making passport services faster, easier, and less dependent on physical counters.

Officials believe the chatbot will also help reduce pressure on the department’s call center, which is being expanded to handle a growing number of public queries.

The upcoming launch reflects the government’s wider effort to shift passport services toward a more digital model and improve access for applicants through automated support tools.

Alongside the chatbot plan, authorities are also considering allowing full online passport applications in the future, which would further streamline the process for citizens.

Separately, the department is also working on a home delivery service for passports within Pakistan, under which applicants would be able to receive their passports at their doorstep after paying a nominal courier fee.
