A nine-year-old girl died after allegedly becoming trapped in a drainage pipe at Sozo Water Park, widely known as Pakistan’s largest water park, in Lahore, leading police to arrest three people over suspected negligence.

The incident took place in Lahore’s Batapur area, where Rahmeen Fatima had visited the water park with her family.

According to initial reports, the tragedy occurred near the park’s closing time. The management allegedly began draining the swimming pool by opening the covers of its drainage pipes while children were still in the water.

Witnesses and videos circulating on social media reportedly show the girl jumping into the pool shortly before the incident. Authorities believe she became trapped in one of the exposed drainage pipes after entering the water.

People present at the scene managed to pull the child out before Rescue 1122 personnel arrived. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident as investigations continue into alleged negligence by the water park’s management.

The tragedy has raised fresh concerns over safety protocols at recreational facilities, particularly the practice of draining swimming pools before ensuring that all visitors have exited the water.

Sozo Water Park is one of Pakistan’s oldest and largest water parks and attracts thousands of visitors every year, especially during the summer season. Authorities are expected to determine whether safety procedures were violated before any further legal action is taken.
