Police in Jand have arrested six men allegedly involved in illegal placer gold mining along the banks of the River Indus and seized machinery used in the operation.
Officials said the raid followed reports of unauthorised mining in the area. During the operation, police confiscated equipment and machinery used to extract gold from the site.
A case has been registered against the accused, who have been sent to jail.
Police identified the arrested men as Siffat Ullah of Kohat, Khalid Rehman of Waziristan, Muhammad Irfan of Mari Kanjoor, Adil of Pindigheb, Shafiq Ahmad of Jand and Saquib Shahzad of Mohala Karbala, Attock.
Police said further investigation is under way to determine the scale of the illegal mining network and whether more people were involved.
Authorities warned that mining without legal permits along the Indus River is a punishable offence and said strict action will continue against violators.
