A post-mortem report on Friday confirmed that the death of a 10-year-old girl found at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Ichhra area was caused by hanging, while police continue to investigate the case.
Police handed over the body to the family after the autopsy. The initial report found a clear ligature mark on the girl’s neck and no signs of torture or forced assault on her body.
Investigators said the washroom door, where the girl was found, was not locked when the incident came to light. Police also sent fingerprints and other evidence from the scene to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
Authorities have taken the property owner into custody and expanded the investigation. Police had already registered a murder case on the complaint of the girl’s father, Muhammad Adnan, after she was found dead at the private tuition centre.
According to police, the girl had been attending classes at the house-based centre for around one and a half years. Witnesses said teachers, family members, and local residents broke open the washroom door after she went missing, then rushed her to hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
SP Model Town said the motive and circumstances behind the child’s death will become clear only after the investigation and forensic report are completed. The victim’s father has urged the chief minister to ensure justice, saying he believes someone killed his daughter.
The case comes less than two weeks after a roof collapse at a tutoring centre in Lahore killed 14 children.
