Actor, writer and theatre director Yasir Hussain is returning to the stage with his next stage play, So Suite, and this time he’s coming to Lahore first.
Hussain unveiled his latest project on Instagram with a post on Tuesday announcing that the play will premiere at Lahore’s Alhamra Arts Council “soon”.
Few other details were given except that the play is a project of the Punjab Information and Culture Department and that Hussain is both the writer and the director — if his last play was any hint, he might also be the lead actor.
So Suite follows the thespian’s last major theatrical endeavour, Monkey Business , which was received well by audiences in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. So well, in fact, that it got a second December run in the City of Lights after its initial April premiere.
Monkey Business was a comedy based on the entertainment industry with Hussain playing Mr Waseem, an actor down on his luck and trying to cheat the system by taking part in a welfare scheme by faking an injury.
Chaos ensued in the play as an inspector arrived to verify Waseem’s claims and those of his wife, a painter, being deaf — which, again, she was not.
In his announcement, Hussain described So Suite as “our most chaotic, hilarious and spectacular production yet” leading us to believe the upcoming play will bring a whole lot of laughs to Lahore — and hopefully later, the rest of the country too.
